Avengers 4 Spooky Theory That May Be Completely True

Published on

The after-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp dropped a rather obvious clue about a possible future plot device to appear in Avengers 4. So, naturally, the community decided to craft some fun and crazy theories about it. Reddit user INeedThatGuysLeg2 coined this particular theory. The theory? What if Ultron’s creation was actually the result of Tony fighting Thanos? What if the events in Infinity War were actually the cause of Age of Ultron?

Time Vortexes

In the mentioned Ant-Man and the Wasp scene, Janet van Dyne warns Scott to avoid a phenomenon known as “time vortexes,” claiming that if Scott gets sucked into one, he’ll be lost in time, and their group won’t be able to save him. Currently, the general idea of how the Avengers are going to fix things in Avengers 4 relies on time travel, and since the time stone is presently unavailable, the only other way we know of is through the time vortexes. So, once Scott falls victim to his clumsy personality and inevitably falls into one of these time vortexes, the idea is that he would end up somewhere in the future.

Early this year, reports claimed that Emma Fuhrmann was cast as an older Cassie Lang, so that supports this idea a bit.

Once Scott sees the world has gone down the toilet, his first instinct would be to check on Cassie, where he would, of course, see that she’s older, find out that he’s been sent into the future, and learn that Hope, Jan, and Hank disappeared with half of the world. Needing to find out exactly how and why all of this happened, he would go seek out the Avengers for answers and eventually run into Tony Stark.

Meeting Cap

Tony and Scott haven’t had many interactions with one another outside of their little bout in Civil War, and the interactions they did have weren’t exactly friendly, so Scott wouldn’t just go straight to him when trying to find answers. Instead, he would try to seek out Captain America and the other heroes who sided with him during Civil War.

It’s not a stretch to believe that Cap would leave some way for Scott to find him in case he needed him; he did leave Tony a cell phone and a note telling him to call him anytime after the two of them had just tried to kill each other. So, once Scott gets in contact with Cap, the two of them would share their stories and Cap would learn that Scott has found a way to time travel. In other words, Scott has found a potential way to reverse what Thanos did.

Cap would come to realize, however, that Scott doesn't know the exact science on how to get into the quantum realm, and that the only people who did are dead. But, when he and Scott put their heads together, they would realize that Tony is probably the only person on the planet who could figure it out. He’s Howard Stark’s son, and Howard Stark was the only other known associate to be involved in Hank’s research. Howard may not have been able to crack Hank’s inventions, but considering Tony’s smarter than him, he more than likely could.

At this point, whether or not Tony and Cap have put aside their differences yet is unknown. Scott has jumped into the future, so it’s possible, but whether or not they have is irrelevant to this new development on time travel.

So, Cap and Scott travel to see Tony.

Back to the Past

Tony would more than likely be at the New Avengers Facility with Bruce Banner. Considering everything Tony saw in Infinity War, he’d be devoting most of his time here, desperately attempting to fix what Thanos did. It shouldn’t be too hard for Cap and Scott to track Tony down in this case.

Once they did, they would tell Tony of their discovery, and Tony would turn them down. He would explain that just going back in time doesn’t solve anything since Thanos was overwhelming the Avengers even when he didn’t have all the Infinity Stones, and he knows that Doctor Strange only saw one good future out of over 14 million possibilities. Once he’s had some time to think about it, Tony would decide that the best way to defeat Thanos would be to harness the power of the Infinity Stones in a similar way that Thanos did, and he thinks he knows how he could.

With that, he would immediately get to work trying to figure out a way into the Quantum Realm. He would send Cap and Scott off to bring back as much of Hank’s research as they could, and then he would see if Howard possibly had any notes on the subject lying around. Once everyone regrouped, Tony and Bruce would put the research together and, after some trial and error, build their own Quantum Realm generator, one capable of controlling the jumps caused by the time vortexes.

Scott would volunteer to jump back in since he’s the only one who has experience with the Quantum Realm, but Tony would tell him that he’s going instead because he’s the only one who knows how to build something to help stop Thanos; Bruce will watch over the generator while he’s gone. With that, Tony would enter the Quantum Realm, and the time vortexes and make his way back into the past, back to the point when Thor let him research Loki’s scepter.

Age of Ultron

With the Mind Stone now in his possession, Tony would build a “suit of armor around the world,” one that can harness the power of the Mind Stone and protect humanity from outer-world threats, or in other words, help the Avengers fend off Thanos. As a result, he creates the self-evolving AI known as Ultron. Ultron, of course, then tries to murder humanity rather than protect it. But, what if, in Ultron’s eyes he was trying to force humanity to evolve so that they could be better prepared for Thanos? “When the Earth starts to settle, God throws a stone at it, and believe me; he’s winding up.” In this instance, “God,” refers to Thanos, someone that Ultron knew of because of Tony. However, because Ultron’s methods were way too brutal, he had to be put down before ever being able to fulfill his real purpose of helping the Avengers stop The Mad Titan.

Major Issues

Like we said, this was just a fun theory. In reality, the biggest issue with it is that if Tony actually did go back in time and triggered the events of Age of Ultron because of Infinity War, then there would be two different Tony’s running around. There’s also the fact that the original theory states that Ultron was the “endgame,” that Tony was referring too in Age of Ultron (his way of quoting Doctor Strange). But Tony was actually referring to the Chitauri invasion when he said that. We would also have to take into account that Tony would have already experienced the result of Ultron’s malfunction (Civil War) by the time he battles Thanos on Titan, so he would know better than to go back in time and create him.
