Avengers: Endgame Art Leak Just Spoiled Everything
Avengers Endgame just recently released some new promotions for the film, ones that come in the form of some pretty epic artworks showcasing the Avengers team and their allies. The art features everyone who appeared in the recent Endgame trailer, with the bonus addition of Captain Marvel, so basically, they show off all of the major characters who survived the snap.
Between the photos and the trailer, it’s pretty obvious that Endgame will focus primarily on these characters, so we’re going to break down their importance and the potential information that each piece of art offers on their particular subject.
There’s quite a few of them, so we’ll start first with:
Rocket Raccoon
Rocket doesn’t reveal anything too crazy, so we’ll go ahead and get him out of the way. His artwork displays him with a lack of his trademark smirk and a gun slung over his shoulder, which makes sense since he witnessed his best friend die for the second time over. Being the final member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket should definitely play a big role in the upcoming film, wouldn't really make sense for him to survive the snap otherwise.
Some speculate that he’ll be the one to save Tony Stark from going quietly into the endless night known as space. The Benatar is his shuttle after all, and if anyone can find it floating in the endless void, it would be him.
Nebula
Like Rocket’s art, Nebula’s doesn’t reveal anything too noticeably different. She stands with her back to the audience, glancing over her shoulder, with the left arm of her suit torn off.
Nebula’s character has been through some things when it concerns Thanos, so her importance isn’t that hard to guess. She knows Thanos better than anyone on the Avengers team, definitely hates him more too. If anyone can get the team close to him so that they can settle the score it would definitely be her.
Ant-Man
Ant-Man’s portrait shows off his upper body.
It’s always been speculated that Ant-Man’s importance would be revealing the existence of time travel in the Quantum Realm, giving the Avengers a chance to turn back the clock on Thanos’ actions. His stranding in the Quantum Realm was made out to be pretty dramatic, but considering the fact that he’s been featured in every Endgame promotion so far, it looks like his escape may not receive the same treatment.
It was always obvious he would escape through the time vortexes, but considering how unpredictable they’re supposed to be, it seemed like Ant-Man would have somewhat of a ordeal returning, but it seems like we’ll just be getting a short summary of his escapades (hopefully with Luis-style storytelling?).
Captain Marvel
Adjusting her gloves, Captain Marvel’s portrait shows her off in one of her signature poses. She didn’t appear in the Endgame trailer like expected, but it was already clear she was going to be important in the movie, the fact that her debut film comes out right before it, pretty much promised that. She’s also Nick Fury’s contingency plan and the most powerful hero in the MCU, so if a round two is happening with Thanos, it’s not happening without her. Like Rocket, there’s also a theory that she’ll be the one to save Tony Stark, towing his ship along with her as she makes her return to Earth.
Hawkeye/Ronin
Hawkeye was one of the rare few gifted with more than one promotional art. In fact, he received three, and judging by the details they convey, this was obviously done to help better show off the character’s newly acquired duality with the addition of his murderous persona, Ronin.
One artwork solely focuses on Ronin, showing him off in all his new gear, while another showcases Hawkeye, wielding the bow that didn’t show up for the endgame trailer. The final artwork depicts a facial splicing of both Ronin and Hawkeye.
Paring this with the scene we got of him in the trailer, it looks like Clint is either going to be switching back and forth between the two identities or finding his way back to just being Hawkeye. We’ll have to wait and see.
Black Widow
Natasha’s artwork appears to have some some duality in it too. When you look closely at her hair, you can see it has shades of both red and white. Yes, all of the hero portraits are designed in this red and white chalk, but Widow’s has more significance.
When you compare her to Captain Marvel’s portrait, who’s blond hair only uses the red chalk for a shading effect, Black Widow clearly has strands of white and strands of red. So it looks like Natasha may be returning to her red-headed roots in Endgame, or at least, we’ll be seeing a red-headed Natasha appear some point, perhaps hen the Avengers return to the past.
Thor
Thor’s artwork is the only one that has its face completely obscured, which is weird. We can’t really really think of any reason why this would be other than the artist taking creative liberty. The face still retains Chris Hemsworth’s likeness so it’s not like it’s a different Thor. Aside from that though, the art doesn’t give any new details about the character.
In the Endgame trailer, Thor seemed pretty miffed that that he screwed up murdering Thanos, and after losing the only family he had left to him, it’s pretty clear that his goal in Endgame is going to be rectifying that mistake. He does have the only weapon seemingly capable of resisting all six Infinity Stones.
Captain America
As we all know, Punished Cap is out (RIP his meme of a beard) and Captain America is back. With a return to form, Steve’s artwork depicts him once again wearing his Captain America helmet, and it seems as though he’s in the armor we originally saw him in the first promotional art for this movie. The only thing missing now is his shield…
Hulk
Hulk’s artwork just shows a headshot of what we saw in the first art promotion, but it’s always interesting to note that Endgame Hulk is willingly wearing a suit, and looks like Bruce in the face. So it’s very likely that we’ll be receiving a Professor Hulk adaptation in the movie. If there ever was a time for Banner and Hulk to come together, now would be it.
Iron Man
Despite just showing his helmet, Iron Man’s art gives off some pretty serious vibes. The helmet is the same one belonging to the Bleeding Edge armor we saw in Infinity War, but we all know Tony is never content, so it’s likely we’ll be seeing him upgrade to the Model Prime armor sometime during the movie, perhaps immediately after being rescued from his lack of food, water, and oxygen.
Thanos
Finally, we have the mad titan himself. Like Hawkeye, Thanos received three pieces, one featuring his Infinity Gauntlet in its undamaged and completed state, one showing him off in his armor, and another showing him wielding his dual-bladed sword.
The fact that Thanos is wearing his armor is important here because it shows that he has indeed lost the full use of the Infinity Gauntlet. According to the minds behind Infinity War, Thanos ditched the armor after killing Loki and acquiring the power stone because he felt he didn’t need it anymore. His power had gone beyond its use. Things have clearly changed on that front.
