CONFIRMED: Captain America's Plan For Avengers: Endgame Revealed?!
So a very long time ago, like, about two months if you can believe it, a trailer dropped for Avengers: Endgame. The trailer was nothing but a bunch of hype moments, but there’s only one moment in particular that we need to discuss for the purposes of today’s topic. In the trailer, there’s a scene featuring Captain America and Black Widow. Black Widow says, “This going to work, Steve.” To which Steve replies by saying, “I know. Because I dunno what I’m going to do if it doesn’t.” They don’t say it outright, but this moment implies that Steve and the remaining Avengers (at least the ones on earth) have a plan or idea for how to fix the hellscape that Thanos left them to live in. There’s hope here.
But what exactly is the hope? We have had absolutely no clue what exactly it was until this point. We have had no idea what could have possibly brought Steve and the others out of their slumps and given them the strength to get up and try again. We’re joking. We all, of course, thought that it had something to do with Scott and his rather sudden appearance at Avengers HQ’s front door at the end of the trailer. But now that Captain Marvel has officially hit theaters and revealed all of its tantalizing secrets. Steve may actually have a different plan in mind for the group. If you stick around for the end credits scene of the movie—who are we kidding, of course, you did; you’ve been doing it for ten years now, even with movies not related to the MCU…or is that just us? Either way, if you stuck around for the end credits scene you were treated to a little teaser for Avengers: Endgame.
Captain Marvel End Credits Scene
Once Captain Marvel ends things start getting incredibly hype. The scene opens up with Captain America, Black Widow and Rodey looking over the death toll of Thanos’ actions. At least that’s what it sounds like their doing judging from from the “nightmare” lines that Cap and Black Widow exchange, and from the rapidly scaling numbers displayed on the holographic monitor of computer their looking at. On the other side of the lab, however, Bruce is looking over the pager that Captain Marvel gave to Fury right before she blasted off into infinity and beyond. The Avengers have a pager hooked up to an apparatus that’s meant to keep its power going until the Avengers know who exactly Fury was trying to get in contact with. Black Widow is adamant about this. Problem is the pager died and it looks like it’ll be a challenge to get it back up and running again. Luckily there’s no need. Just as it looks like the Avengers will never get the answer to their questions, the person NIck was trying to get in contact with appears directly behind Black Widow. Captain Marvel, not looking very happy, demands to know where Nick Fury is.
How the hell she managed to sneak into the headquarters of the most power team on earth as slick as she did, we won’t know until Endgame hits theaters in a few weeks. But that’s not what’s important. What’s important is that it’s confirmed that the Avengers got ahold of Captain Marvel’s pager, and better yet, it’s confirmed that Captain Marvel got the message. As far as the end credits scene goes, we don’t know exactly if Captain Marvel actually came across and saved Tony on her way back from her space faring Avengers. Considering how worried Captain Marvel seemed about Fury though it’s not very likely she made any pit stops on her journey back to earth. It’s more like that Tony will be taking a page out of Thanos’ book and doing the job himself.
Steve Rodgers Plan
With Captain Marvel now officially confirmed to have gotten the signal and to have made her way to earth and united with the Avengers, Steve’s plan may in fact have something to do with her rather than with Scott and his potential time travel abilities. It’s not like Scott or anyone else currently in the Avengers facility would even know how to properly use the time vortexes to get to their desired timeline. Bruce might be able to figure something out, but time travel and quantum realm things aren’t really his forte. Scott may have an idea of what to do with time vortexes if he used them to escape the Quantum Realm, but if we’re being honest, he had a much less convoluted escape option available to him in the blue pym particle disk that he uses. He used them in the original Ant-Man to escape the quantum realm, so why not just do it again? Unless, of course, he still doesn’t remember that that’s how he escaped the first time. If that’s the case, what’s stopping him from forgetting how he used time vortexes to escape the Quantum Realm?
The point is, is that Quantum Realm time travel is pretty convoluted for everyone currently involved at Avengers HQ. If Shuri, Tony, and Bruce worked together to crack it, then maybe, yes, things would be different. But the current statuses of both Shuri and Tony at this point in the movie are unknown to everyone. So a safer bet would be to rely on both Captain Marvel and what she can do. If the cosmic hero does decide to strut her stuff for the Avengers -- and we don’t see why she wouldn’t -- then they would realize that they have a real powerhouse on their hands. Captain Marvel, just naturally, can move fast enough to keep up with ships moving through jump points. Between her and Thor, traveling through the cosmos will be a pretty easy task. The group will probably need Nebula to track down what planet Thanos is on exactly so that that they can go stomp him out for actions, but it would seem the major piece of Steve’s plan just arrived, and she’s going to want to take down anyone who had a hand in killing her friend.
Now if we’re being fair, Steve’s plan could very well involve both Scott’s potential ability to time travel and Captain Marvel and Thor’s ability to just move around through space with little to no problems. They could effectively attack Thanos on a number of different fronts. Some could go back in time and try to find the Infinity Stones, while others can makes the attempt to hunt him down in the present. Thor is aware that the gauntlet is damaged and would have relayed this information to group, so finding Thanos now and attacking him wouldn't be the worse idea. Between his Bifrost summoning abilities and Captain Marvel’s insane flying speeds they could take separate search parties with them if they wanted. It helps that both characters are also stupidly powerful at this point, so each group will have a titan on their hands. On the time traveling front, retrieving a stone before Thanos would also effectively reverse the effects of his snap completely since he needed all six stones in order to pull his snap off in the first place. If they went this route, getting the Time Stone from Doctor Strange would probably be the best route.
