Every Movie Happening After Avengers: Endgame

Published on

Endgame has arrived and that means the first eleven-year story arc of the MCU is now official over. But, despite the movie being a solid conclusion for many of the heroes and characters we’ve come to love over the past decade, the MCU still plans to keep chugging along, placing the spotlight on newcomers and those who have yet to finish their own arcs.

We know of a few of these heroes like Spider-Man and Black Panther, but it’s important to remember that Marvel has acquired some new blood recently. Thanks to Disney’s deal with Fox, Marvel now has the rights to a lot of heroes that they didn’t have originally, and while they have said they're going to wait a decade before using these properties, we don’t very well believe that. So we’re going to speculate a bit about the new upcoming movies that’ll be setting up the MCU’s next big story arcs.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

We said Endgame wraps up the first eleven-year story arc, which is half true. While it does conclude the Infinity War storyline, it is not the last movie of phase 3. That happens to be this upcoming Spider-Man sequel, which will more or less act as the epilogue to the Infinity War storyline.

Since Spider-Man: Far From Home is actually coming out here soon, we already have a quite a bit of information about it. The latest trailer, in fact, mentioned that Far From Home will be introducing a multiverse concept to the MCU (of course Spider-Man would be used for this kind of idea). A multiverse introduces us to a load of new possibilities. For instance, most of us believe that Mysterio is the villainous mastermind of this movie, but if he’s from a different universe, he could actually end up being a different universe’s, Doctor Strange.

The movie itself will deal with Peter’s feelings of having lost Tony and will obviously set him up to take his place as the MCU’s new “Iron Man.” Of course, Mysterio is a master of illusions, so the whole multiverse thing could just be… well -- an illusion, but we’re going to think positive and believe that the multiverse is officially a thing in the MCU.

Black Panther 2

The king of Wakanda is back and so is his clever sister. That means we’re getting a Black Panther sequel, and we may even have a potential plot lined up for him. Any of you know of a guy named Namor? You know -- Marvel’s king of Atlantis? Well, Endgame dropped a pretty interesting easter egg to him in Endgame in the opening act when Okoye made a comment on Earthquakes under the ocean. Endgame’s writers have tried to debunk this easter egg having anything to do with Namor, but as they’re under the Russo’s brothers influence, we don’t trust them at all.

Namor may very well be pissed that “air-breathers'” conflicts have affected his kingdom the way it has (half of the people in Atlantis were, of course, wiped out too). Sure, the Avengers corrected it in the end, but Namor has never really been a reasonable person. He’ll probably want to teach the land lovers of the MCU’s a lesson, and he may just try to start with Wakanda.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3

If you saw Endgame there’s plenty of reasons to be hyped for this movie. There’s been no confirmation that Thor will actually be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but that’s not going to stop us from hoping for it anyway. Since leaving his angel-pirate body behind for that of the beer-bellied fat one he has now, Thor has been nerfed pretty hard. He’s still the strongest person on the Guardian’s ship at the moment, of course, but there are some possibilities now for him to reasonably share a story arc with these guys, which would be amazing.

Chris Hemsworth said he’s more than willing to come back and play some more Thor if it continues in the same direction Ragnarok did. If any movie in the MCU would be similar to Thor: Ragnarok, it would be Guardians of the Galaxy 3. The MCU has already done a pretty good job of showing us the chemistry Thor has with the guardian's team through both Infinity War and Endgame, so it’s already a proven-to-work formula. But if Thor does still seem like too powerful an ally, just remember that the guardians themselves did take on a “God” in Ego back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Doctor Strange 2

Doctor Strange is one of the rare MCU movies whose end-credits scene sets up the titular hero’s next solo film rather than the next team-up event. Thanks to this setup, it feels like Doctor Strange came out such a long time ago. In reality, it’s been less than three years, but, to be fair, we’ll have waited for a total of four if the movie comes out in time for its scheduled year of 2020.

The end-credits scene of Doctor Strange showed us Baron Mordo’s fall from grace and his new ideology of ridding the world of sorcerers for the greater good, even if he must do it by force. Assuming Mordo wasn’t taken by Thanos’ snap, that’ll mean he’s had around at least seven years to covertly travel and rid the world of sorcerers. That’s a long time to go unimpeded in your sinister goals. So Strange is going to have some catching up to do in his upcoming sequel.

X-Men

This is where the multiverse concept comes into play. Disney’s absorbed Fox’s entertainment properties, and as such, they now have the X-Men under their belt, a fan-favorite group that they didn’t have the rights to during the first MCU story arc. With things as they are now, it’s likely that Disney will -- in some way shape or form -- bring the X-Men -- into the MCU. It wouldn’t be a complete waste of money if they didn’t (because they definitely got more than the X-Men in the Fox deal), but a waste of money all the same.

If the multiverse idea in Far From Home does turn out to be a real thing, then Disney can use already established fan-favorite actors to play their X-Men characters (except for Wolverine, sadly, because Hugh Jackman is still retired). This method would also give them a very good explanation as to where mutants have been all of this time. They could just say that the MCU’s earth is one of the few in the multiverse that doesn't have mutant. What storylines will be covered with the X-Men still remains a mystery though. Most people have their fingers crossed for an Avengers vs. X-Men adaptation, but who knows what solo flicks they’ll have.

Fantastic Four

Disney also acquired the Fantasy Four in their Fox deal and therefore have the rights to their characters as well. The Fantastic Four haven’t had the best of runs when it comes to movies. Their first incarnation failed to become a trilogy and their reboot was so bad we like to pretend it doesn’t exist. But maybe the third time’s the charm, right? If anyone can revive this series it would definitely be the MCU.

Still, even if the Fantastic Four don’t get revived in a new set of movies they could always be used like the Hulk. Either do to rights or to lack of public trust or both, the Hulk did not receive a trilogy like his other three companions in Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. Instead, his story arc played out alongside other heroes whose movies he appeared in. The Fantastic Four could be somewhat the same. It’d be a little difficult to pull off since their four characters instead of one but not impossible. Should the team actually get their own movies, however, they’d be the best way to introduce iconic villains such as Doctor Doom and Galactus into the MCU.

Captain Marvel 2

Endgame didn’t give Captain Marvel much screen time at all, but it did establish her role in the MCU. Captain Marvel will indeed be another space-opera style hero, much like the Guardians team. Endgame sets her up as someone who watches over multiple worlds at once, not just that of earth. We still don’t know whether or not the Skrulls fooled her into thinking they were the victims when in reality they really are just as bad the Kree, and because of that, we don’t know if the first Captain Marvel movie will be the setup for the Secret Invasion storyline, but we are pretty sure that Captain Marvel 2 should answer this question.

If the Skrulls are actually bad guys in disguise, Captain Marvel 2’s plot will more than likely feature them in some way. Considering Captain Marvel is constantly looking out for other worlds, it would make sense that she go back and visit the Skrulls whenever she has the chance too, especially since they were the first race of people she ever helped out. Essentially, we don’t think the Secret Invasion storyline is down for the count just yet.

Avenger 5

This movie more than likely won’t be happening for a long time. We have just had two Avengers movies back-to-back in only the span of a year. Granted, while they were both telling the same story, they were also treated like two huge events, and they wrapped up a pretty long storyline. Regardless of whatever story Avengers 5 deals with it’ll probably be the movie that determines how many people stick around for the MCU’s second journey.

If snapping with the Infinity Stones broke open the multiverse, then it’s more than possible that the Avengers little time heist adventure upset Marvel entities dealing with time. So the Avengers 5 villain could be someone like Kang the Conqueror, whose goal is to correct what the Avengers did to stop Thanos -- something like that.

Ant-Man 3

So Avengers: Endgame skipped forward into the future by five years and aged up Scott’s daughter, Cassy, into a teenager (or preteen) as a result. This seems pretty intentional. The Ant-Man movies have gone out of their way to hint at the idea that Cassy will be one of Scott’s crime-fighting partners. She does, in fact, happen to be a superhero in the comics. She goes by the name of “Stature,” or more recently, “Stinger.”

Now that MCU’s Cassy is no longer a little girl it’s very possible that the time is nearing for her to follow in her old man’s footsteps. Ant-Man 3 may very well deal with this idea. Scott is currently working with the Wasp in Hope Van Dyne, but that doesn’t seem like a reason Cassy can’t work alongside them too, If anything it’ll be more of Scoot’s worry as a parent that prevents her from taking up a suit, and the conflict that occurs from that will be a driving force of the movie. Scott did miss five years of Cassy’s life, and she’s been through a lot in that time, so she’ll definitely show growth that he isn’t ready to accept in the movie.

Thor 4

This movie’s is a bit up in the air. As it stands now, Thor is the only member of the big three Avengers who’s capable of having another movie, and he’s the only member of the original six still up for action. Everyone else is either retired or dead. With that said, if he were to get a fourth movie, he would be the only MCU hero to break the concept of a trilogy. The thing about a Thor 4 is that while the character is able to have a fourth movie, should he really get one? There’s not much to do with Thor anymore. His character’s completed his story arc. He seems like he would do better in a supporting role now -- similar to the Hulk. Basically, it would be easier to see Thor dropping in to help Captain Marvel or the Guardians with whatever it is their doing, but it wouldn’t be very easy to see him carrying another ten-year story arc.
