LEAKED Captain Marvel FOOTAGE Reveals Plot Twists And More
Captain Marvel is the prelude to Avengers: Endgame. Endgame is the conclusion to the end of the first Marvel cinematic story plot. Captain Marvel’s importance seems massive from just this fact alone. What exactly she’s going to offer is still a mystery though. We know from interviews and comments made by the filmmakers and talent of the movie that Captain Marvel will be the strongest hero to appear in the MCU--stronger than Cap, stronger than Hulk, and apparently even stronger than Thor. But strength alone won’t be enough to take down the Mad Titan. What role is left for her then to fulfill? What exactly will she lend the heroes that they didn’t already have when fighting Thanos for the first time around? What will she do to turn the tables?
Well, from the footage we’ve been presented through trailers and teasers, and from these many interviews and comments, we just may be able to figure it out.
Time Travel
From what the MCU has exposed us to, it’s seemingly obvious that Endgame will have something to do with time travel. In the end credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scott Lang enters the Quantum Realm to retrieve Quantum Healing particles for Ghost. Just before he enters, however, Jan Van Dyn tells him not to get sucked into a time vortex because they won’t be able to save him if he does. This has way too many opportunities behind it just to be a throwaway line. How Jan Van Dyn knows how exactly the time vortexes are actually time vortexes is another mystery in and of itself, but that’s beside the point.
When Ant-Man finishes up his task in the Quantum Realm and calls back up to his party so they can get him out, we the audience learn that Thanos’ decimation snap disintegrated them, leaving Scott stranded all alone in the Quantum Realm. Despite this circumstance, we see him appear in the Avengers: Endgame trailer and teaser as his usual happy self. So somehow--someway, Scott escaped, and the only option he had available to him was the time vortexes. Essentially, Scott has the ability--or at least knowledge of how to use time travel, but what does this have to do with Captain Marvel?
Well, recently Samuel L. Jackson revealed that Captain Marvel also had the ability to time travel, and from the way he worded it, it was a natural ability that she possesses--not something that requires external use, like Ant-Man. Captain Marvel doesn’t have this ability in the comics, so what exactly would she need it for in the movies? The only reasonable idea is that time travel will be a prominent plot device in the Endgame story because we now know of two characters who can utilize it.
It’s not likely that the Avengers will spend Endgame split up into two teams because we saw how well that went in Infinity War, but if the situation calls for it, with both Captain Marvel and Ant-Man having the ability to time travel, the Avengers should be able to divide their forces pretty evenly.
If that doesn’t turn out to be the case, then maybe Captain Marvel will teach Scoot how exactly time travel works. From the looks of the things in the trailers, the explosion that gives Carol Danvers her abilities looks like Quantum Realm energy. If she really did receive her powers from the Quantum Realm then, considering the time gap between her movie an Endgame, it’s entirely possible that she’s learned how time vortexes work, and that she knows how to manipulate them.
Another scenario could be that Captain Marvel is actually the one to save Ant-Man. With the powers of the Quantum Realm at her disposal and this idea of time travel being a thing for her, she could stumble upon Scott while he’s floating around inside the realm and bring him back to his timeline to meet the Avengers. This works out for her because she would already be heading to his timeline anyway in order to answer the call of Nick Fury’s pager.
Binary
While super strength may not be the only thing needed to defeat Thanos, it certainly does help. We don’t know exactly how much stronger Captain Marvel is in comparison to the other heroes, like say Thor, but the fact that the filmmakers even thought to bring up the subject in the first place shows that it must be by a surprising margin.
Thanos was able to defeat both the Hulk and Thor in combat. While we didn’t see him fight Thor, we did see him clobber the Hulk, and he did so without the use of his Power Stone. He could have very well used the stone on Thor, but considering he didn’t even bother with the Hulk, it’s hard to think that Thor would push him to that limit, especially since Hulk gave the God of Thunder a run for his money in Ragnarok. It might be safe to compare MCU Captain Marvel’s level of strength to Thanos in this case, because as we’ve seen so far, Thanos is the strongest person in the MCU--period.
However, Thanos does have the Power Stone in his position, so even if there was someone in the MCU that did prove a match for his regular strength, he could always call on the stone for more. This would seem to be the obvious problem that most of the Avengers would face if they ever somehow had Thanos on the ropes. Still, we’ve seen the power stone blocked by Iron Man’s Bleeding Edge armor, and that wasn’t composed out of vibranium or anything of the sort, and Thor’s new ax plowed through a blast from all six of the Infinity Stones. While their power is great, they do have some limits it seems, and Carol may have just the trick up her sleeve to continue to match Thanos, even if he does rely on the Power Stone.
Binary is a title and powerful transformation that Carol possesses. It’s a form that elevates her and all of her abilities to insane levels of power. In the comics, Binary can tap into the forces of a white hole and augment her powers with it, giving her a seemingly endless supply of energy. With this power, she can manipulate energy in all of its forms, including heat, thermal, and light, and she can generate this energy on her own, whereas before she was just channeling the cosmic energy around her.
We know the MCU will have Binary involved because they’ve shown the form in every trailer and teaser that’s been released for Captain Marvel. How the MCU decides to handle Binary will more than likely be different than how the comics handled her. She does already have a time travel power. The basic concept of Binary--a more powerful state of Captain Marvel powers and abilities--should remain the same. Heck, it may even be more absurd since Kevin Feige is claiming that she’s the strongest hero in the MCU now.
With that being said, if Thanos uses the Power Stone--which he more than likely will if needed--and the MCU allows Carol to go Binary whenever she pleases, then it’ll be a brawl like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Still, this is Thanos, a guy who defeated a god and a hulking green rage monster with little to no effort and who now possesses the power of all six Infinity Stones. Regardless of how powerful she is, Binary Carol may not be enough to go toe-to-toe with Thanos (at least she better not be), but if she, Stormbreaker Thor, and Professor Hulk, all team up they may be able to get that gauntlet away from Thanos and even out the playing field.
Assemble
Even if Captain Marvel can surf the time stream, there’s no doubt from her trailers that she can handle herself in space just fine. So maybe she can pull a double-whammy. We know of two Avengers currently in space at the moment (or at least an Avenger, and an ally). Tony Stark and Nebula look like they’re going to need some help if their going to make it back to Earth to help the other Avengers come up with a plan of attack, but currently, their ship is without power, and Tony is running out of the last of the supplies he needs to sustain himself. So maybe, once Captain Marvel has returned from her time-faring adventures, or even if she’s on her way back to meet Fury from a spacefaring one, she can pick up Tony and Nebula after realizing that their ship is stranded, and take them back to Earth.
It would make more sense if she arrived from some other timeline first though because then she could save Scoot Lang. Scott Lang could introduce her to the Avengers and subsequently Rocket Raccoon. Rocket can call her cat out for being a great, big phony like he does in the comics. Then Rocket can attempt to get into to contact with the Benetar to see if any of the other guardians are alive. Tony and Nebula can get the signal but fail to respond due to lack of power. They can work on trying to boost the ship’s signal to try and reach back to Rocket and get his attention. Rocket can receive their distress signal, confirming that someone is in his ship. The group will realize that they have no way of going out to space to retrieve the Benatar until Captain Marvel speaks up. She tracks the signal out into space, finds the ship, and then tows it back to Earth, leading us to the scene we saw in the big tv spot teaser with Cap, Widow, Banner, and Rhodey walking out in the field late at night to look up into the sky.
Thus, all of the Avengers would be reunited.
So as it stands now, we have a new hero who is not only the strongest hero in the MCU, but also has the ability to time travel. The most sensible role for her to have would be to give the Avengers a fighting chance to change the events that took place in Infinity War. They have a chance to undo the snap and possibly bring things back to normal--or to at least restabilize the MCU.
Hulk and Thor were both no match for Thanos. These were the two strongest titans that the Avengers had to offer, and yet Thanos defeated them both. With Captain Marvel joining the fray, things should be different. With Stormbreaker, Thor was capable of beating back a full-powered Infinity Gauntlet, and almost took Thanos out himself when he had the advantage of a sneak attack. The Hulk is formidable on his own, but with Bruce Banner somehow merging his and the Hulk’s strengths to become Professor Hulk, he’ll be an even more terrifying force to deal with. Now we have Captain Marvel joining in as well, and she’ll be joining presumably with her Binary powers. Simply put, she’ll be able to help turn the tides of battle in the Avengers favor.
With her and Ant-Man having the ability to time jump, the two of them can go back into the past before the snap takes place and possibly stop it from happening. By extension--all the Avengers would be united again. Of course, if Thanos’ so chooses, he could use the Time Stone to go back in time himself, thus giving him access to the Black Order once again (although, they weren’t very useful to him before if we’re being honest).
It should be interesting to see whatever Captain Marvel has to offer the group. Putting aside the new additions the MCU has tacked onto her character, she’s still one of the very few cosmic properties the MCU has (the only other one being the Guardians). Her story and powerset should make an excellent addition to the final chapter of the first MCU storyline.
