MASSIVE Avengers: Endgame HINT Revealed By Crazed Fans of Infinity War
A new Avengers movie is on the horizon, so it’s time for fans to fall back into their usual routine of theorizing, speculating, and scrutinizing every detail of every MCU movie that’s come prior. The effort has seemed to produce some results.
Let’s talk about it.
A user on Reddit may have possibly uncovered an interesting plot thread concerning Endgame, and it comes from the end credits scene in Avengers: Infinity War.
Marvel, sneaky guys they are, did a very good job of hiding the plot thread in this scene. It’s veiled between all the destruction and chaos that go on and the high emotions from the recent climax. There’s so much happening that you wouldn’t even think twice about the hint that’s dropped, and it doesn’t help that it revolves around a character who’s not very famous. On top of the that, the hint happens at the very beginning of the scene and is the last line before all the action kicks off.
While driving, right before Nick and Maria avoid a crashing car, Nick tells Maria to “Tell Klein that we’ll meet him at...” And there it is. That’s the hint. Now you’re probably thinking, “who the heck is Klein and why did u just waste seconds of my time to bring him up?”
Those are all fair questions, and here, good people, are the answers:
Who is Cameron Klein?
Just to say at the start Klein does not originate from the comic books.
Klein is, as it stands now, a super, minor character and a former SHIELD agent. He was one of their technicians before Hydra revealed themselves to be behind the wheel. As such, Klein’s first appearance was in the Winter Soldier. During the Battle of Triskelion, he was the guy that stood up to Brock Rumlow. (You may better know him as Crossbones, the guy from Civil War that caused Wanda to kill a bunch of people).
When Brock told Klein to activate the helicarriers, Klein refused, despite knowing the Brock would blow his brains all over his console if he didn’t. Klein instead opted to remain loyal to Captain America. His exact words were, “I’m not gonna launch those ships… Captain’s order.”
Obviously, Klein ended up surviving the encounter, and as a result of his bravery, Nick Fury recruited Klien to work directed under him.
We see him make his next appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. During the Battle of Sokovia, Klein was there with Nick Fury and Maria Hill in a helicarrier that had been formerly grounded. He did what he was told to do in his own flustered way, and launched the lifeboats that the Avengers and local law enforcement used to help people.
Currently, those are his last two appearances on screen. His next appearance, funny enough, does happen in a comic: the Captain Marvel Prelude. But what’s important is the prominence Nick and Maria give him.
The comic reveals that Nick and Maria had been monitoring the Civil War situation the whole time. Nick, understanding that the situation puts his “Avengers Initiative” idea in a pretty rocky place, decides he needs to set some things in motion: he knows that a greater threat is on the way and needs to put some plans in place.
Before he heads out on his missions though, he asks Maria if Klien is still running transpo, and she confirms that he is. He states that’s a good thing because he’s going to need to cover his and Maria’s tracks while they go out and do their thing. With this sequence, we understand that Klien is very valuable asset to Nick, and someone that he truly does trust. This should definitely be noted.
Right after their discussion about Klien, Maria makes an off-handed comment on the Civil War squabble, saying she was told never to meet her heroes because they just let you down. Nick tells her that not all of them do that and Maria asks him if he’s got one he hasn’t called yet--a backup plan in case things go horribly wrong? Instead of answering her question directly, Nick simply tells her that if they do their jobs right, they’ll never have to call her.
It’s a Captain Marvel comic, and from what we saw at the end of the end credits scene for Infinity War, we can guess that “her” refers to Captain Marvel. This confirms for us that Nick definitely sees Captain Marvel as--for all intents and purposes--a last resort. For whatever reason, Nick does not want Captain Marvel back on Earth if he can help it.
But what does Captain Marvel have to do with Klien and his importance? Well, to answer that, all you have to do is remember what happens to Nick and Maria at the end of Infinity War.
Why Is Cameron Klien Important?
He’s important because he’s Nick Fury’s new Phil Coulson (moviewise). He may not be as physically badass, but he’s in Fury’s inner circle. In the midst of a planetary crisis, Nick wants to call Klien. You may wonder why that matters at all. After all, it’s not like Nick has had any strong, lasting, on screen impact on what has happened over the course of phase three. Well, now that we know who Klien is, we can go back and make better sense of what’s actually going on in the end credits scene of Infinity War.
As their riding down the street, Nick asks Maria if there’s been any word from Tony. She tells him no, but they have every satellite available looking out for him. (Thanos just snapped his fingers, so we the audience know that Tony is alone with Nebula at this point). It’s here that Maria receives an alert, and when Nick inquires about it, she informs him that there’s a invasion happening in Wakanda that’s ten times worse than what they encountered in New York. Nick immediately instructs her to contact Klien and tell him that their going to meet somewhere. Before we or Maria can hear about the location, however, Nick is cut off by the crashing car.
When Nick and Maria get out to investigate, they realize that the situation is even worse than they image as Nick watches Maria vanish as a cloud of dust. Suppressing his shock, Nick beelines to the back seat of his SUV for the Captain Marvel pager and calls her just before he himself is dusted.
Nick wanted to meet Klien because Klien knows about Captain Marvel (at least in the same vague regard that Maria does). Nick trusts Klien, so it makes sense that he would have some knowledge about his last resort plan. He’s in on the secret with Nick and Maria. Nick probably wanted to personally inform Klien about the fact they were calling her, and wanted him to get whatever preparations were necessary in place for her arrival, and now that Nick and Maria are out of the picture, Klien is the only character with an inkling as to what’s going. Captain has no idea what she’s flying into and doesn’t know any of the Avengers, and the Avengers probably have no idea who she is (except maybe Rocket since he’s also part of the cosmic heroes of Marvel). The point is, is that Klien just got promoted from Phil Coulson to Nick Fury, and will more than likely be the one who gets Captain Marvel and the Avengers together.
