PROOF WHY Hugh Jackman WOLVERINE Will Be In Avengers Endgame
Let’s talk about Hugh Jackman.
If for some reason you were blissfully unaware of the insane rumor going around, we’ll go ahead and enlighten you. If you go into Google and look up Hugh Jackman’s movies in the search bar you’ll be rewarded with a surprise. It won’t be in the immediate results mind you, you’ll have to click the continue arrow, but as of the present time, it should be there. You’ve probably guessed it already (it’s in the video title): Avengers Endgame is credited as being on of Hugh Jackman’s list of movies.
So, of course, MCU fans lost their freaking minds, and the rumor mill has been in full swing ever since.
The character portrayals that fill up the MCU have been some of the best in Marvel’s history. You’re probably not going to find anyone who’s a better Iron Man than RDJ, a better Cap than Chris Evans, a better Thor than Hemsworth, a better Strange than Cumberbatch--you get the picture. Hugh Jackman falls into this same category. You would end up hard-pressed to find someone who can be a better Wolverine, or even follow up the act. It’s like trying to succeed Heath Ledger’s Joker: it’s just not going to happen.
So the thought of Jackman not only returning to the Wolverine roll but doing so while entering the star-studded MCU is mind-boggling.
But is it really true?
Well, the simple answer is: there’s no solid confirmation.
Google isn’t anything to take seriously in this case because it’s search results can be affected by how people use it. Essentially, if enough people simultaneously search Jackman and Endgame at the same time, the website will pair them together. Google is also the only site that lists Hugh as a part of Endgame. You won’t find him anywhere else.
There’s no solid confirmation that Hugh is going to be making an appearance in Endgame. In fact, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, has also already said that he would rather introduce the Fantastic Four before introducing any mutants, so that puts a bit of a damper on things. However, none of this means that it is impossible for Hugh’s Wolverine to make an appearance in Endgame.
Around the time he was concluding his run as Wolverine, Hugh expressed in interviews that he would find it really difficult to turn down a deal from the MCU if they came to him and offered one. It’s the MCU, so if the opportunity presented itself, it’s not like he would immediately turn it down.
There’s also the fact that Disney--being Disney--will be absorbing 21st Century Fox soon. In fact, the deal should go through this month. This means they’ll have the rights to all of Century Fox’s properties (which would include Wolverine), and by extension, Marvel will be able to use him cinematically if they want.
Wolverine was also a big player in the Infinity War event in the comics.
Wolverine: Infinity Gauntlet
In the Infinity Gauntlet comic storyline, Wolverine actually has a pretty sizeable role. At the comic’s start, Wolverine and Hulk actually find some common ground with one another and end up developing a friendship out of mutual respect. In the words of the Hulk “... We’re both monsters, pal.”
Mark Ruffalo has even addressed the relationship between Logan and Hulk in his own interviews. He wants to actually see the two of them interact on screen. Like most sane people, he would love to see the two characters beat the living tar out of one another on the big screen, with surround sound and a bag of popcorn to keep him company.
Anyway, once Hulk and Wolverine become friends, the two of them assemble with the rest of the heroes in an effort to beat Thanos. As the battle rages, Wolverine seems to be the one who ends up dealing the most damage. In fact, he’s the one who nearly kills Thanos to begin with. During the initial fight, he gets in close enough to bury all six of his adamantium claws in Thanos’ chest, dealing him a fatal blow.
Unfortunately for Wolverine, though, at this point, Thanos has already outfitted his Infinity Gauntlet with all six of the Infinity Stones, so he’s nigh unkillable. With the greatest of ease, Thanos not only heals himself, but reduces Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton to nothing more than rubber, leaving him to crumble helplessly to the ground.
While this does act as a pretty unfortunate end to Wolverine and takes place in the first round against Thanos--which in the MCU has already happened with the film Infinity War--the MCU does like to do things differently with their adaptations. Some fans have even speculated that Wolverine may have already squared up with Thanos and had his brawl.
Wanna Know How I Got These Scars?
There’s a design choice about MCU Thanos that’s rather peculiar. It can be found on his big, purple face. If you take a close look at his cheeks, you can see a scaring pattern. The scars look like three, distinctly lined up slashes. We wouldn’t happen to know anyone capable of leaving scars like that would we?
We all know that Thanos is a warrior and that scars just come with the job--even if you’re big, hulking, purple, giant with nigh indestructible skin. That being said, comic Thanos’ doesn’t have any kind of scars like these on him. It’s only MCU Thanos. Why is that? Well, fans speculate that it’s because Thanos had himself a scrap with Wolverine already, and it turned into a “you should see the other guy” type of situation.
Some have theorized that the original holder of the Mind Stone was Professor Xavier. Thanos, having recently started his quest to find all six stones and bedazzle his new, spiffy gauntlet, took it from Charles after defeating his bodyguard, Wolverine. This is how he came into possession of it in the first place to give to Loki. Logan and Charles decided to never speak about the incident again because Logan got his butt kicked, and Charles didn’t want to risk revealing mutants to world. Besides, there was no way Thanos would find the rest, right? They were supposedly scattered across the entirety of the universe and it’s not like he had the Space Stone.
However, like most are, their expectations were shattered. Thanos found the stones, snapped his fingers, and caused all sorts of crap to hit the fan--what with him wiping out half of all living things. Now Logan has no choice but to enter Endgame in order to set some things straight and get his run back against the Mad Titan.
It’s all very crazy, wild, and unlikely, but really fun to think about and imagine.
The bottom line is that there is some substance to Hugh’s Wolverine appearing in Endgame, but whether or not it will happen remains to be seen. For one thing, Kevin stated that there would be more prominent information on the X-man and Fantastic Four in six months time. That would mean we shouldn’t expect anything serious from those groups until the end of May or in June.
Then again it’s not like Hugh’s appearance in Endgame couldn’t be used as a jumping board for this information.
