What You Missed in Avengers 4 Official Trailer Will Shock You

Published on

It’s here! It finally aired! Right on schedule this time, Marvel released a trailer showcasing the next Avengers installment and it’s looking amazing! It doesn't feature Captain Marvel like predicted, but it finally gives us a damn title to the movie. You can find the full thing on Marvel Entertainment’s official YouTube page. Let’ dive into the breakdown!

Iron Man Adrift In Space

The trailer starts with showing us Iron Man’s battle-torn helmet resting on the floor and Tony reaching out to activate it. It’s clear he’s not on Titan anymore but instead in a cockpit of a ship out in space.

As Tony talks, he paints a clear picture of what his current situation is like. He’s adrift in space on a ship who’s food, water, and power supply have all run dry. He firmly believes he’s going to die since his oxygen will be the next thing to burn out, and he’s using the last of his helmet’s power to create a recording of his final words, all of which are specifically addressed to his fiance, Pepper Pots.

This sequence reveals and reminds us of a few things. Tony and Nebula were the only survivors of the Battle of Titan, all of Tony’s comrade’s and the people connected to Nebula were victims of Thanos’ snap. Nebula arrived on Titan separately from everyone else, and she and Tony are currently onboard the ship she stole to do that.

Thanos’ Happy Ending

The next sequence we get is quick, but it’s worth noting. It features two shots that are clearly about Thanos.

The first shot shows his armor hung up in the fields of the world he retreated to at the end of Infinity War. The next shows Thanos himself walking through the same fields with the focus being on his now destroyed infinity gauntlet.

This along with the Iron Man sequence gives us the time frame where the film takes. We haven’t time-jumped a few years into the future, only a few weeks, a month at most. The next few sequences we get to support this.

Heroes in Mourning

Back at Avengers HQ, Black Widow confirms something to someone (more than likely Cap) that Thanos really did wipe out half of all life. We get a shot of Cap silently crying, and then we see what’s going on with Bruce Banner.

Bruce is looking over two holographic monitors displaying data about the people the Avengers know for certain are missing. We catch a glimpse of three portraits, two of them display characters we the audience know are gone, but the third displays a surprise casualty.

On the more prominent monitor, we see Scott Lang’s portrait. We know he was stranded in the Quantum Realm at the end of Infinity War due to the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp.

The second monitor shows two other missing people. One of the portraits it shows is Peter Parker. Again, we know what happens to him. He’s a confirmed victim of the snap. But, right before his picture pops up, we see that Cheri is also one of the people the Avengers can’t account for.

Considering she was on Earth and in Wakanda when all hell broke loose, her disappearance would mean that she too was a victim of the snap. So, currently, options for the Avengers to optimize Vibranium are now off the table.

The next three scenes show us a hanger in the HQ, and Thor mourning while in civilian clothes.

The trailer then takes us back up into space and shows us Nebula walking into the cockpit of her ship. We then immediately see her hand fall away from Tony’s shoulder, all of this happening to the voiceover of Cap declaring that “they”--the Avengers--all lost friends and family. So it’s safe to assume that Tony and Nebula have bonded a bit in the void of space, and maybe she’s trying to comfort him in what he believes is his final hours.

Since Nebula is more robotic than organic at this stage, she can probably go without things like food and water longer than Tony can. She probably doesn’t need them at all. So maybe in this scene, she’s telling him that she’ll do what she can to deliver his message to his would-be wife?

The Birth of Ronin

Still, under the voiceover of Captain America, the next scene treats us to a hooded man dragging his sword against one of his vambraces. As the scene plays out, we learn that Black Widow is watching the man as he stands over a body.

It’s evident that this guy has just brutalized multiple people as two other bodies are speckling the ground just a few feet away from him.

As the man throws back his hood and pulls away his mask, he does so to Cap saying “we lost a part of ourselves,” and when he turns back to meet Black Widow’s gaze, we see it’s Clint Barton.

Hawkeye is back, and it’s painfully clear by the expression on his face that his family is dead now. What’s not clear is whether or not the snap took them or if the bodies he’s dropped on the ground had something to do with it.

It is clear that he’s been doing some traveling, though, as the setting of this scene seems to take place somewhere in Asia, or maybe he’s in Chinatown of New York? Either way, it looks like Black Widow has had to track him down to this area.

Another interesting detail here is that Hawkeye is missing his trademark bow and arrows. The only weapon he seems to have is his new rather sharp blade. Is this a physical show of his potential change in personality?

Avengers: Endgame

The next sequence rejoins us with Cap and Black Widow. It appears they have a plan of action now as Steve closes a compass housing a picture of Peggy Carter, his first love, to the line “this is the fight of our lives.” The scene wraps up with Black Widow assuring Steve that whatever they’re about to do is going to work and Steve telling her that he knows it will because if it won’t know what to do with himself if it doesn’t.

And then we get the film's title.

After all this time, we finally get the official name of Avengers 4-- Avengers: Endgame. The Russo brothers jebaited us! Fans had guessed it all along.

The Return of Ant-Man

The last scene of the trailer is Ant-Man of all people rolling right up to Captain America and Black Widow’s front door and asking if he can be buzzed in, in typical Scott Lang fashion. But the question to be asked here is if this is really Scoot Lang or a Skrull in disguise. Remember, Scott was trapped in the Quantum Realm by the events of Infinity War with his only known escape option being the time vortexes. Did the vortexes just conveniently jump him a few days or weeks into the future, or has he gone on some time-jumping adventure that he’s now back to tell us about?

Finally, the date of the movie was also moved up again like predicted. It’s no longer coming in May, but in April, just like Infinity War. April 26 is the exact date currently.
